Modern combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plants are very complex systems where a large variety of hardware, software, and firmware comes together and works in harmony – or does it More often than not, CCGTs are developed by people with limited or no technical background. Naturally they rely on teams of engineers – Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Owner’s Engineer, or in-house engineering – to design and “optimize” the plant. As different parts of the plant comes from various vendors and from many different countries, the engineers frequently find themselves in the middle of opposing arguments – minimize capital expenditure (capex), minimize heat rate (maximize efficiency), maximize reliability and build quality, etc….How does one “optimize” such a complex structure
