Digitalised Asset Capturing and Quality Assurance Process for Utility Asset Identification and Verification

The need for asset mapping to customer consumption is closely linked to revenue realisation for utility companies. Therefore, it is important that utilities know spatially, where their customers are located and assets that supply electricity to their customers. In a developing world such as Africa, many obstacles hinder such customer knowledge acquisition such as, poor network infrastructure, poor customer database, unidentified assets etc. For a utility company to succeed or even thrive, asset mapping to customers is required. However, quality assurance of the data captured is crucial to any large data verification project such as customer identification. Therefore, the right processes are essential to ensure that the data received is managed and controlled appropriately for accurate reporting. A successful process has been developed and maintain which gives an efficient reporting time with optimal results. The process includes a back office procedure where people verify the data received from the field to ensure the assets were captured accurately. This process adopts an assembly line' format where each person is assigned a role and is able to execute it with no delay before the data is moved to the next person. All the processes are conducted digital, which opens up rooms for virtual teams to work across the world on a single project within a secure digital environment. This has proven to be more cost effective than having all the teams working in one location.
