Flux-cored arc welding processes analysis of a shipyard

It is know that the welding process of a shipyard is held as one of the most influential operation on its overall budget. For this work, a case study was developed to understand how the welding processes acts in the Estaleiros Amaz?nia S.A. (EASA) shipyard, specialized on river barges and pusher constructions, then to purpose a significant increase to the welding production using flux-cored arc welding (FCAW). The study was conducted through ongoing monitoring on production area and by data collection, analysis, filtering and conclusions about the study. This data contains used parameters (Amperage, voltage, gas flow and wire speed), productivity rates (Deposition/fusion rates, welding time and amount of material deposited) and weld positions. It was collected operational parameters and productivity rates using MVA-2 and the Briefcase IMC-SAP 4.0, both highly precise equipment for welding measures. The analysis and data processing were made by the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) welding laboratory and it was found around 20% productivity increase for deposition rates, by comparing parameters mentioned, using a model of the shipyard practices, and bibliographic content.
