In this study, a possibility of using a bioethanol-diesel emulsion as an alternative fuel for compression ignition (CI) engines is explored. For the investigation bioethanol was obtained from Madhuca Indica flower by fermentation process. Two important emission parameters nitric oxide (NO) and smoke emissions from the emulsion fueled single cylinder, four stroke, air cooled direct injection (DI) CI engine were determined and compared with those of diesel operation at different load conditions. The experimental results were also validated by a mathematical modelling using a MATLAB program and are presented in this paper.
