摘要

The Great Lakes account for 21% of the total surface freshwater in the planet and the region has a population exceeding 33 million. There are many potential sites for offshore wind energy development but the spatial sparseness of offshore observations, the formation of ice during winter months, and the temporal and spatial variability of satellite imagery available for wind retrieval make wind resource assessment a challenge.
