CANADIAN EXPERIENCE WITH DRY TYPE EHV CURRENT TRANSFORMERS

In this paper the history and development of a proprietary dry type EHV current transformer will be reviewed. This technology offers a piece of equipment that is water resistant, robust and free of explosion risks and environmental contamination (leakage). This dry type EHV technology has been marketed internationally since 2005 and has been gaining acceptance on T&D systems in many parts of the world. The paper will discuss the experiences of two large western Canadian utilities with their dry type EHV current transformers including how this technology was evaluated against their very stringent performance specifications.
