The principal of operation of the IMB is to capture impedance spectra rapidly over a broad frequency range using simple hardware and control software that processes unique algorithms to determine spectra based on a sum-of-sines excitation signal. One such algorithm is Harmonic Compensated Synchronous Detection (HCSD) which is an example of a rapid, lower resolution impedance measurement technique. The sum-of-sines excitation signal consists of frequencies that are separated by octave harmonics so as to eliminate the effects of crosstalk interference. With no crosstalk error, the duration of the excitation signal needs only one period of the lowest frequency.
