Toward pulse photometry: the influence of pulse light on luminous efficiency and physiological effects

It is acknowledged that the theories of photometry and colorimetry were developed based on traditional light sources. At present, the concept of intelligent lighting, such as dimming applications represented by PWM dimming, are frequently used. However, there is no existing research as to whether high-frequency pulsed light can cause some difference in photometry theories. In this article we investigate the influence of pulsed light on vision and non-vision effects. A vision experiment comparing the brightness of DC light and pulsed light of different colors was conducted. We also investigate heart rate and blood pressure subject to pulsed LED lights and compare different parameters of pulsed lights. The experimental results show that pulsed light has different luminous efficiency. The experiment also show that exposed to pulsed light for a long time can influence the heart rate and blood pressure.
