Nowadays, there is an increasing demand for processes that are dedicated to the oil refining industry, and such processes involve the upgrading of high aromatic and sulfur-containing petroleum feedstocks and fractions into high-value fuel products. This upgrade is to strategically reclaim the average quality of deteriorated crude oil. Although there is an increased demand for crude oil processing, the methods have several drawbacks. For instance, one of the negative effects of the crude oil refining process includes catalyst poisoning. Furthermore, some sulfur compounds are also associated with some corrosion bottlenecks in pipeline and other refining equipment, which can lead to combustion engine failure. Additionally, other compounds being generated from crude oil are known to have broader impacts on the environment. , For instance, during combustion, sulfur compounds give sulfur dioxides as major contributors to air pollution and acid rain [1]. These environmental hazards raise further concerns by environmental policy and lawmakers, who have currently determined the acceptable maximum level of sulfur content in the transportation fuels to be 15ppmw and 10ppmw by the US and EU regulations, respectively [2].
