Oil-refinery waste activated sludge produced from refinery wastewater treatment plant not only contains pathogens, parasite eggs, and unstable organics the same as municipal sludge, but also adsorbs many oily-compound including alkane, aromatic compounds and other hydrocarbons. In this study, methane production from oil-refinery waste activated sludge by two-phase anaerobic digestion was investigated. By optimizing conditions of hydrolytic acidification and adopting appropriate pretreatments, high efficient methane production was obtained.
