Sponges are able to live in an association with mangroves as epibionts on the roots. Mangrove sponges, which are live on the more extreme environment than sponges in coral reef ecosystem produce bioactive compounds that could be distinct. These secondary metabolites can possess a cytotoxic and potentially an anticancer effect. A method to test toxicity of a natural substance that potentially content of anticancer substance is Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. The purpose of this research is to investigate toxicity of bioactive compound from a crude extract of mangrove sponge as an anticancer potential with BSLT method. The results described that all crude ethanol extracts are toxic with an LC50 value of Spheciospongia inconstans, Biemna fortis, and Dysidea sp. are 85.4380 mg·L~(-1), 276.024 mg·L~(-1), and 555.689 mg·L~(-1). Therefore, all extracts possessing a potential anticancer effect, especially Spheciospongia inconstans, which has the highest value of toxicity. This research can be utilized as a preliminary study for further research on anticancer compound from mangrove sponges.
