摘要

Feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC) is an inflammatory disorder that affects a quarter to a half million cats annually in North America. It is the most common urinary disorder of young to middle-aged cats and is characterized by frequent, bloody, and painful urinations, house-soiling, and in some cases, life-threatening urinary obstruction. The clinical and morphologic features of FIC are strikingly similar to those of an idiopathic disorder of people called interstitial cystitis. Although clinical andlight microscopic features of FIC and interstitial cystitis are well characterized, underlying causative factors in the pathogenesis of both disorders remain obscure. Recent studies, however, suggest that human interstitial cystitis and FIC may be associated with unique changes in urinary bladdereicosanoid expression.
