THE 5 BEST FOOD ANIMAL MEDICINE PAPERS OF 2012

Peer-reviewed food animal medicine articles published in 2012 were examined. English-language articles published in top tier veterinary journals and a smaller number of animal agricultural journals based on 5-year impact factor (ISI Web of Knowledge)and articles published in other journals based on recommendations from colleagues were considered. The title and abstract of eligible articles were reviewed and articles selected for further consideration. Five evidenced-based articles that dealt with important but different topics were subsequently selected for presentation and discussion. Criteria used for selection included diversity, excellence in study design and statistical analysis, and a perceived likelihood that the results of the study will impact the way we practice food animal medicine. The papers selected contained a clearly stated rationale and hypothesis, and a well described materials and methods section that will permit anyone, anywhere, to reproduce the study.
