CHP Systems simultaneously or sequentially generate power (electric or mechanical) and steam to be used on-site in place of separate generation of steam plus purchased power. Topping and Bottoming cycle refer to the order of events: 1. Topping cycle first generates electricity; leftover heat is used for process steam or space heat 2. Bottoming cycle, also a type of WHP, first produces steam or heat for a process; leftover heat is used to generate electricity.
