Implementation of Al TWBs is lagging in comparison to the development cycle for steel TWBs: 1. Technology or demand? DOE collaboration with industry led to significant changes to the available FSW technology supporting production of Al TWBs: 1. Demonstrated weld speeds to support high volume production; 2. Increased formability associated with solid-state welding technology; 3. TWB Company is now able to provide both FSW & laser welded blanks for high volume applications. Multiple joining solutions for Al TWBs are now available: 1. Technology decisions based on cost, post-weld formability, geometry and alloys: (1) Best to work with available suppliers for specific cost platform recommendations.
