Currently in relay protection devices, FPGA is widely used to improve the security and stability of the power system. However, there are difficulties in voltage and current signals' generation and real-time monitoring during the FPGA development. According to the analysis of the common relay protection device's architecture, this paper proposes a new method to design a relay protection algorithm based on Matlab/Simulink tools and FPGA platforms. This method will have greater flexibility and shorten the relay protection device's development cycle.
