This paper presents an analysis of two wave energy converters (Cape Verde and Flexible Drive Line) models designed for North Sea applications. The objective is to identify performance differences between the two models and compare their energy extraction capacities. The motivation is the fact that ocean waves represent a very interesting energy resource for the coastal countries, where Offshore Wave Energy Converters can provide significant portion of future energy needs. By accounting for the influencing parameters, this study compares applicable wave energy conversion theories for the two selected models. The study indicated that the Cape Verde can convert maximum power in shallow waters, while the Flexible Drive Line model operates in transitional waters and withstands adequate buoyancy for the main module to certain depths. The study concludes indicating the best ways to select buoys parameters in order to convert an optimum amount of energy, in each case.
