Cyber-security researchers have been warning about the massive physical damage and loss of life that can occur as the results of cyber-attacks against oil and gas production facilities. In addition, government agencies have prepared case studies demonstrating that the cyber-attacks can cause physical damage to process plants. The most famous of these case studies was the "Aurora" test that was staged by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security against a packaged turbine system. The results of this staged event were widely reported on international news outlets like CNN.
