Extension of depth-resolved reconstruction of attenuation coefficients in optical coherence tomography for slim samples
It can be shown that the proposed method allows the reconstruction of a pseudo attenuation coefficient in cases where the previous algorithms fail. As signal extrapolation is applied, the reconstruction is possible even if the signal does not decay completely and it allows reconstruction of the attenuation if the surface is above the focal plane. Nevertheless, the method is limited: the surface of the media under investigation has to be above the focal plane. Moreover, the normalization prevents the calculation of the exact value of the attenuation coefficient. Therefore, the attenuation coefficient is too low. As future goals, both of these two limitations should be removed.
