By recognizing an analogy between deformation in jammed particle systems and temperature in glassy materials, a new concept of fictive dynamic strain was developed for modeling the filler flocculation kinetics of particle-reinforced rubbery polymers. The fictive strain converged toward the actual test strain during the particle flocculation process. The proposed τ(γ,γ_f) relationship resulted in the relaxation time increasing during flocculation, which represented the experimental flocculation data well. A double exponential function also gave a very good fit to the data, with a combination of fast and slow processes having structural origins not fully understood.
