The intake air cleanliness requirements for gas turbine and industrial process air filtration applications has a far ranging impact. Specifically, this impact has a direct influence on two key management objectives - the safety of workers and the efficient performance of the generation equipment. Historically, these filtration systems can be complex and difficult to design and specify properly. The performance testing of these systems is often reduced to a simple static testing methodology used in heating vemtilating and air conditioning (HVAC) applications. This approach is known to potentially assess performance in misleading and wasteful outcomes. This presentation is targeted as an informative vehicle to show the advantage of testing these systems in a "dynamic" mode. We will detail two formal methods to achieve this objective along with a series of screening and benchmarking techniques that have proven to be an important tool in making these assessments.
