THE HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY OF THE BMW PLUG-IN HYBRID CONCEPT X5 eDRIVE - (PPT)

The BMW X5 Concept eDrive combines ideally the BMW eDrive technology with the intelligent all-wheel drive system BMW xDrive. The BMW Group follows consequently the path of inhouse development of electrified drive systems and the inhouse production of the core components HV battery and e-motor. As well as the eDrive components are part of an universal "modular kit", also the manufacturing technologies follow a standardized "production process kit". The cell module is an equal part of the BMW i8 PHEV battery and will be used in all BMW PHEV vehicles of the next generation starting in 2015. One of the most challenging topics of the high voltage battery is the two level cooling system and the vehicle integration of the pack below the trunk. The production of the battery requires specialized manufacturing technologies and a certain level of automation due to the demand of process quality, speed and cost reduction. The new production plant of eDrive components has got a very flexible layout and is ready for future high production volumes.
