1 De-ashing of forest residues could reduce both the total ash and Alkaline earth metals causing corrosion and slag in biomass burners/boilers 2 Mechanical de-ashing methods seem to be more cost effective and has potential to control external ash from forest residues 3 Wet washing methods are effective in removing intrinsic ash content in biomass, but are expensive. However, a simple water washing method may be effective removing alkaline earth metals at low cost 4 Best management practices (BMPs) while collecting forest residues could potential reduce or manage initial ash content in forest residues
