摘要

Starting function in distance relay design is a crucial in order to detect a short circuit in power system. However, this function prove vulnerable to distance relay operation as it could falsely send a tripping signal during power swing. To overcome those issues, this paper presents a simple and effective adaptive protection algorithm for power swing false tripping prevention based on Under Impedance Fault Detector (UIFD) characteristics. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, the testing has been conducted under IEEE 39 bus system. Simulation results prove that the scheme can be reliably deployed for identifying the power swing conditions and adjusting the relay setting accordingly.
