Filtration Characteristics of Electret Fibers Filter

Filtration is a simple, versatile, and economical means for collecting samples of aerosol particles. There are five basic mechanisms by which an aerosol particle can be collected onto a fiber in a filter, including interception, inertial impaction, diffusion, gravitational settling, electrostatic attraction (Zhang et al., 2009). Charged fibers can greatly enhance filter collection. By additional electrostatic mechanisms, high removal efficiency can be achieved without incurring large pressure drop (Matsuda et al., 2001). Titanium dioxide and barium titanate are candidates for capacitor materials because of their high dielectric constants (Kobayashi et al., 2008). However, few researches have been carried out dielectric constant of PMMA that could be increased by additive agent. Therefore, the filtration characteristics of PMMA filter with different dielectric constant materials will be studied.
