Point-to-plane electrostatic sampler is one of simply designed electrostatic sampler where particle charging and precipitation occur at the same time. The electric field is formed between a corona needle and a flat collection surface. A flux of ionized air molecules streams toward the ground plated during sampling. In according to previous studies (Kim et al., 2011; Noyce and Hughes, 2003; Park et al., 2014), the bactericidal effect was due to electrostatic disruption of cell membranes as a result of ionic accumulation on the cell membrane. Therefore, in the point-to-plane electrostatic sampler, the cell membranes of sampled bioaerosols can be dissolved by the ions during sampling. As a result, components such as DNA, ATP, and other proteins can be extracted from the sampled bioaerosol. These extracted components can be used for identification and quantification of bioaerosols.
