Temporal trend of the PM2.5 mass and chemical species’ concentrations in Seoul

Particulate Matter less than or equal to 2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter (PM2.5) can have detrimental effects on human health. Thus, in many countries PM2.5 has been included as one of the criteria air pollutants. Starting 2015, PM2.5 will be a criteria air pollutant with the annual standard of 50 μg/m3 and 24hr standard of 25 μg/m3 in addition the existing PM10 standard in Korea. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the trend of the mass concentration and chemical composition of PM2.5 to establish appropriate management policy against PM2.5.
