Relation between Particle-bound Brown Carbon and Carbon Components Evaluated by Thermal Optical Method

Particle-bound brown carbon were analyzed for ambient samples collected in various locations in East Asian countries as well as emission sources such as diesel engines and wood ovens were compared with carbons determined by thermal optical method. Ambient particles were collected on binder-less quartz fiber filters (Pallflex 2500 QAT-UP) by using a portable high volume air sampler and PM0.1 sampler (Furuuchi et al., 2010). Particle-bound carbon components such as EC, OC, Char-EC and Soot-EC were analyzed by thermal optical method (Sunset laboratory carbon analyzer with IMPROVE protocol). Following the previous report (Wonaschuetz et al., 2009), the brown carbon was analyzed using an integrating sphere system (ISS).
