Advanced numerical models are used to test the performance of the planned redesign of the channel geometry of Alameda Creek, which involves modifications of both the longitudinal slope and the channel cross section. The proposed modifications are aimed at optimizing the sediment transport capacity of the creek while at the same time maintaining suitable protection against floods. The models are also used to assess the impact of planned salt pond restoration schemes, which involve levee breaching to allow fluvial sediments to deposit in the salt ponds, on both the flood levels in the ponds and the sedimentation of the lower reaches of Alameda Creek.
