Joy Global'sbusiness is focused solely on serving surface and underground mining operations with superior equipment and direct service, with the goal of enabling mine operators to achieve the lowest cost per unit of production over the life cycle of the equipment while maintaining a strong focus on safety.One of the ways in which Joy Global assists mine operators in achieving these results is data analytics.Prognostics and data analyties are used daily at Joy Global smart services centers throughout the world to assist mine operators in improving production, refining operations, detecting premature failures, and implementing preventative strategies.The smart connected products of a Joy longwall system include a shearing machine, armored face conveyor (AFC), roof supports, stageloader, crusher, and mobile belt tailpiece.The ongoing aim of the data analytics employed by Joy Global Smart Services is to monitor equipment operations, extract relevant data, and analyze that data to detect patterns and systematic relationships among the operator inputs, control system parameters, sensor data and alarm/event information.Statistical techniques, such as regression analysis, are utilized to optimize cutting speed, detect roof cavities, and improve cycle times for the powered roof supports.Predictive diagnostics and rule use cases are implemented to analyze real-time data and provide alerts with respect to changing longwall characteristics.
