Cloud point temperature measurements for linear polyethylene and isotactic polypropylene in 63 different solvents were used to identify solvents for polyole?ns and determine the relative thermodynamic quality of these solvents. A comparison with other indicators of the solvents’ thermodynamic quality shows that the approach is generally valid and offers a fast and easily applicable tool for characterizing solvents according to their thermodynamic quality. The results offer a multitude of new possibilities for the development of systems for chromatographic characterizations of polyole?ns.
