In order to meet the demand of low side-lobe directivity of radar antenna, the application of normal distribution in the array antenna synthesis has been proposed. After a brief analysis of the characteristics of normal distribution function, the array factor based on normal distribution is given. The parameters that affect the directivity of array factor based on normal distribution have been analyzed. It is proved that the side-lobe level of directivity pattern based on normal distribution weighting is lower than the classic Chebyshev distribution and Taylor distribution by comparison, and with no significant broadening of the main lobe. At last, a linear array antenna composed of 21 dipoles has been simulated by using HFSS. The simulation results verified the theoretical analysis.
