The ecological zone is the smallest unit perceived and relatively consistent in the ecological landscape, and it's also a group of symbiotic community geographically, reflecting the specific climate, soil, vegetation and ecological conditions. There're a number of unique top species, such as tropical rain forest, desert and other ecological domains in this unit. Owing to the continuous progress of human civilization and urbanization process' accelerating, ecological issues become increasingly prominent. The deteriorating global environment problem leads to the loss of habitat of many species. They are threatened by extinction, which could be extremely unfavourable to the sustainable development of environment. Therefore, the construction of ecological zones is one of the most important ways to solve this problem. The first issue of the construction of ecological zones should be the location problem. Based on GIS spatial analysis techniques and the model builder's functionality of ArcGIS, the Geoprocessing model of selecting the area suitable to construct the ecological zones can be analysed and built according to the requirements of birds in their habitats, and it can solve the problem of the location choice of the ecological zones in a representative and abstract area. Finally, in order to solve this problem of specific areas, the method has been implemented as a web service to use Arcserver to create Geoprocessing services. In this way, the sharing of data, resources and model could be achieved.
