(p488) Application of High Turbulence Roll Cooling (HTRC) at ArcelorMittal Gent and Dofasco's Hot Strip Mill

A breakthrough in roll cooling has been obtained with the introduction of High Turbulence Roll Cooling (HTRC).This new technology enables a very early start of the cooling section after the roll gap, increased heat transfercoefficients, an improved cooling homogeneity and to reduce coolant flow/pressure. The first industrial prototypehas been installed in 2005 at ArcelorMittal Gent. The very positive results led to a roll out of this technology tostand F1 and F2 at ArcelorMittal Gent and stand F2 at ArcelorMittal Dofasco. Each new roll out also increased theaptitude of the cooling technology. Work roll performance has strongly been improved and energy savings up to90% can be obtained.
