With worldwide population growth and technology evolution, energy demand increase is leading to a higher demand for fuel to meet this challenge. The Middle East (ME) region currently holds the world’s largest hydrocarbon reserves providing economy stability and reliability for both crude oil and natural gas supply. However, to ensure economic stability, diversified economy policies has led to a large boost in energy consumption placing certain ME countries amongst the most energy intensive countries in the world. This has impacted the electricity demand with a 3%/annum growth, requiring key investment in upgrades and expansion of the electrical grid. In the next two decades, to reduce investments required in developing more power plants and expanding the grid, Energy Efficiency is the solution allowing more efficient use of natural resources on the supply side while enhancing currently available power plants’ performance and fuel consumption which result in significant profits. This paper highlights energy issues in the Middle East and proposes enhancements that can be implemented on the GE regional installed gas turbine leading to over 5000 MMBTU/hr per annum of fuel savings.
