Carbon-supported platinum-group metal (PGM) catalysts are a crucial component of low- and intermediate-temperature fuel cell technologies. These include proton exchange membrane (PEM) systems, the phosphoric acid fuel cell (PAFC) and related PBI-based cells, as well as the new breed of systems based on anion-conducting polymer membranes. Non-PGM catalysts attracting interest in these systems are typically carbon-based, as well.
