The removal of carbon dioxide from flue gas mixtures presently necessitates the use of aqueous amine solutions, yet solid adsorbents with significantly lower heat capacities are frequently proposed as promising alternatives. In particular, owing to their high surface areas and tunable pore chemistry, metal-organic frameworks have been shown to outperform other solid adsorbents including zeolites and amine-functionalized silicas for many carbon dioxide capture applications.
