Thai Government has been launched an attractive policy which adder shall be toped up the whole sale tariff for wind power project. This incident made many developers came to Thailand even it is located in the country considering lower wind speed related to other countries. Developers have looked for the high potential wind speed locations, in the north-eastern and southern parts of Thailand based on Thailand Wind Resource Map. Many wind power projects have approached to high potential locations where are located far from the grid, it consequently increases the project cost. Considering in detail of the high potential wind speed profile, it is a fact that high wind speed appears in certain period which it is influenced by tropical monsoons, AEP becomes higher. This brings up the interesting issues regarding how much worthwhile of investment and revenue of the potential locations is higher than the other locations. Considering moderate potential locations in Thailand, wind speed is seemed to be moderate and steady for the whole year long. It simply means that Wind Turbine is kept generating electricity more or less the whole year. Moreover, if the difficulties of constructability and transportation on the moderate potential wind speed locations are considered feasible, as the project cost might be reduced. Distance to grid is short; the expected transmission line cost is low. Thus, the project in moderate potential locations, plateau or near coastal areas, becomes competitive with project in high wind speed locations. In conclusion, even the AEP in moderate potential locations is considered lower, but the Project is interesting to be invested because BoP and transmission line costs may be low. Thus, the wind power projects could be expected to be executed many more if the right approach and strategy are conducted as long as attractive tariff is still active.
