Creating a Robust Maintenance Strategy for a New Unit Under Construction- A Must for Operational Readiness

It is always a major endeavor and challenge to build a new power plant. This fact combined with having stringent reliability, availability and efficiency contractual terms necessitates a well planned, highly effective maintenance strategy that is established in the very beginning of operations to ensure performance goals are met. This is further challenged by the very small staff sizes being placed to operate and maintain. When most plants are being built all focus is on the construction and startup and rightly so. However, taking the time to establish the maintenance strategy during construction will ensure the unit will be ready for operations and, for the long term, meet the performance goals.
