1. PHS is not merely a capacity addition project, it helps to stabilizes the power system, contributes quality power and meets peak demand of the country. It also helps in improvement in efficiency, PLF and life of existing thermal power plants. 2. India is harnessing more renewable energy, so storage of energy plays a vital role for effective utilization of energy produced from such sources. So more PHS development is not a far future!!! 3. Developed countries have sufficient surplus energy and have provision to buy cheap off-peak energy from the grid for pumping and sell the energy during peak hours at a competitive higher price. 4. Indian power industry has not yet commenced such commercial operation of PHS or has not set special tariff system to use PHS. 5. Advanced turbine design are required to enhance plant performance and flexibility and research in this regime should be encouraged by the Government of India.
