Flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC) has occurred in conventional fossil plants over at least the last 20 years. FAC occurs in about 60 percent of conventional fossil plants. This paper provides power producers with a balanced assessment of state-of-the-art material selection to overcome FAC problems and provides a guide for extending plant life and improving human safety. The paper discusses how FAC affects existing plant life and safety and provides ways to mitigate these effects. This paper also shares the guidelines followed by Black & Veatch to resist the effects of FAC.
