The Thermal/Infrared testing method has many advantages in comparison to mechanically removing the entire exterior jacket for access to the insulation of the Tankcar. The two main techniques used in the Railcar industry are [1] Infrared Imager Camera and [2] Infrared Non-Contact Thermometer. Both will be discussed for this project. Substantiation of these two testing techniques was done per Procedure Qualification Records and ASTM 2862, Standard Practice for Probability of Detection Analysis for Hit/Miss Data.
