Impact of Load Swings Fuel Flexing on MATS ELG Compliance

This abstract reviews the difficulties associated with the transient operation of coal-fired power plants resulting from the demands of today's energy market, which includes significant load swings and fuel variability. The extended abstract details how both the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) and the Effluent Limitation Guidelines (ELGs) compliance are difficult to maintain with current physical-chemical treatment. This extended abstract also examines the holistic nature of the environmental control equipment, and the need for integrated controlled operation practices.
