This paper presents technical data which demonstrates the effectiveness of an inorganic colloidal suspension for MATS compliance within the American Electric Power (AEP) fleet. This data was generated during the first 12 months of MATS compliance by AEP plants beginning April 2015. Elevated mercury stack emissions were experienced during both planned events (e.g. load cycling, start-up/shutdown); and unplanned or unexpected changes in operating conditions (e.g. Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) spikes). These stack mercury emissions were controlled by injecting the inorganic colloidal suspension into the wet FGD units on an "as required" basis depending on stack Hg CEMS, scrubber ORP and/or Hg trap data.
