Since my grandmother born in 1900 our modern world has gone through immense change. The last 100 years of human activity have impacted our planet in ways that would have been unimaginable to previous generations. It is clear that the relationship between fossil fuel dependent societies and increasing CO_2 emissions is clearly not sustainable. As an engineer working in the field of HVAC & CCHP design we need to do our best to influence our customers and colleagues to spend a little more to save a lot. As we continue to deplete our planets limited fossil fuels we need to look towards a more sustainable way to meet our energy needs and minimize C02 emissions. Severe weather due to climate change also gives us an opportunity to build more resilient systems that use less energy. As building owners adapt their business models to severe weather and more frequent electric grid interruptions CCHP will continue to emerge as a viable solution in many areas of the world. Given the right application CCHP, biomass and other forms of energy recovery make both environmental as well as sound business sense for commercial consumers of electric power and natural gas.
