Alumina mining and refining is a major industry in some countries. It contributes significant benefit to the general world economy. With globally increasing demand for mineral resources, a concomitant and ongoing increase in mining activities has been taking place globally in recent years. This spurt in growth is not without problems; mining operations inevitably lead to dust fall-out and chemical exposure, which in turn has given rise to community complaints and concerns all over the world.
