Field Stake Performance of PXTS Treated Parallam~ PSL After 6 Years Exposure

The efficacy of OHgomeric AJkyJphenol Polysulfide (PXTS) was evaluated as a preservative for Parallam~R brand parallel strand lumber (PSL) manufactured from several wood species using AWPA E7 field stakes. After 6 years of exposure at two sites, the performance of PSL manufactured from southern pine and Douglas-fir and treated with 2 pcf PXTS is equivalent to creosote treated PSL at 9 pcf. At one site, the performance of PSL manufactured from yellow poplar at similar retentions is inferior to the southern pine and Douglas-fir PSL, indicating a higher treatment level may be required to achieve equivalent results.
