Significant progress on costs and efficiency for current commercial PV platforms (silicon, thin film). DOE Sunshot program is focused on cost competitive PV and CSP ($1/Watt; $0.06/kW-hr) Meeting the TW challenge with cost competitive solar will require R&D Efficiency, earth abundant materials will become increasingly important at TW scale Reliability and lifetime prediction continues to be key for new technologies and bankability Fundamental science plays an important role in improving current technologies and developing next generation materials and devices, it also provides an excellent platform for international collaboration. R&D needs and energy storage needs can be different for different applications and scales. There is a strong synergy between the DOE SunShot Initiative and the Jawaharlal Nehru Solar Mission, Solar Energy Research institute for India and the US (SERIIUS) is researching sustainable PV, muitiscale CSP, and solar energy integration. New partners are welcome to join and collaborate.
