Introduction An excellent early review of the psychological aspects shown in 17 cross-sectional studies of children and youth with Type 1 diabetes was published by Lustman et al. in 1983(1) . This was an era of boiling syringes, sharpening needles, repeated fingersticks, and urine tests, with a large compromise in lifestyle. Patients and parents were expecting early morbidity & mortality. Patients and parents were grieving.
