China’s first 660 MW ultra-supercritical boiler with double reheat has been in commercial service sinceJune 27, 2015 after a 168 hour reliability test. This paper describes the design considerations and operatingexperiences. It analyzes in depth the key points for designing a coal-fired boiler with double reheat, and the needfor gas recirculation as the means of controlling the reheat temperatures. This project demonstrates that thedecision to develop the technology for an ultra-supercritical boiler with double reheat is a good one for the Chinesepower industry.
